What Is A Secured Credit CardWhat is a secured credit card? It is a credit card for people with bad credit or no credit. Many of the offers that you see for credit cards for bad credit or credit cards for people with no credit, are actually secured credit cards when you look closely at the offer. A secured credit card is a card that is available to people with bad credit or no credit because it is secured with money that you deposit with the credit card company. These credit cards will rebuild or establish credit very quickly and that is why they are very popular with people with bad credit or no credit. Many of these cards are available with a minimum opening deposit of his low as $200. These cards are far superior to prepaid cards or any other types of credit cards for people that have bad credit or no credit history. These cards are accepted everywhere that any credit card could possibly be accepted. You will never have a problem using these cards as you do with some prepaid cards for with your debit cards, as nobody knows that they are secured cards. The answer to what is a secured credit card is simply a credit card secured by money you deposit with the card company. When you apply for one of these cards, the application process is simple as they merely want to verify your identity. Once they have verified that you are who you say you are, they will give you instructions how you can deposit your funds just like you would with a prepaid card. Some of these cards have different deposit options, so make sure if they require a checking account, and if you don't have a checking account, simply find a card that will allow cash deposits with a service like Western Union. I personally make all of my deposits by cash using one of these services. I do not like to give the credit card companies access to my checking account or bank account, and when you make cash deposits they are applied to your credit limit immediately. You might want to double check with the company and make sure that your deposit will be available soon if you need this credit card in a hurry. As someone that has personally used secured credit cards to rebuild my damage credit scores, I can tell you that these cards are not only wonderful at rebuilding credit, they are very good for daily use. If you would still like to know more about what is a secured credit card, keep reading as it only gets better. I do not like to go into debt as I am trying to be financially responsible now that I have fixed my credit. I like using my debit card whenever possible so that I know I am paying for anything I am buying and not building up more debt. However, debit cards are not accepted everywhere, like when you want to reserve a hotel room or rental car. This is where having a secured credit card is very useful. When you ask what is a secured credit card, I can tell you that this card is no different than a normal credit card as far as these companies are concerned. I keep two secured credit cards because they have done such a good job of raising my credit scores and they come in handy when my debit card is not accepted. Even though I now qualify for unsecured credit cards, I like keeping my cards as they are seasoned lines of credit on my credit reports. What this means is that I am given higher credit ratings because my cards are now a few years old. Your credit scores go higher as you establish lines of credit which are over a few years old. Ideally you would like to have lines of credit that showed that you paid good for five years or more, but this is not always possible. The next best thing you can do is make your payments on time with your secured credit cards and they have almost the same impact on your credit scores. When you look to compare secured credit cards, all you have to do is compare their opening deposit, their annual fees and make sure that they report to all credit bureaus. If you are looking for a card with a high limit, you will have to check around to find a card that will accept deposits higher than $2000. Other than that, you simply compare their fees and find the card that is currently offering the lowest annual fees. The fees charged by these card companies change from day to day so all you have to do is check and see who is offering the lowest the when you're ready to get your card. I hope that now when someone asks you what is a secured credit card, you can answer the question and if they have bad credit tell him or her it will fix that also. If anyone is tired of dealing with prepaid credit cards, these are an excellent alternative that are accepted in more places and will also help you establish credit or fix bad credit. Very few companies advertise their cards as credit cards that rebuild credit, but that is exactly what these cards do and some companies are starting to advertise this fact. Maybe by the time you read this, there will be more companies advertising the fact that there credit cards will rebuild credit but at this time there is only one major credit card company doing this. Since you have read what I told you, you now know that any secured credit card, or any credit card for bad credit that reports to the credit bureaus will also fix your credit or establish new credit. Secured credit cards are not always advertised as secured credit cards. Many times when you apply for a credit card for bad credit or a credit card for no credit, you will be directed toward secured credit cards as these are generally your only option in this situation. If you want to compare many options for secured credit cards, simply start looking at the offers for credit cards for bad credit or credit cards for no credit. Sometimes these cards are advertised as credit cards for people with bad credit, but I think you are starting to get the idea how to find these cards. If you want to see the results on your credit reports, check your credit before you get one or two of these cards and then check your credit three months later. I started with one secured credit card and when I saw the results on my credit reports, I decided to get a second card. My scores went even higher so I have had two cards now for over three years. Even though these cards do charge an annual fee, it is worth every penny when I see what it has done in raising my credit scores. Having these cards has also allowed me to be able to qualify for other loans and unsecured lines of credit now that they are a little older and have really helped out my credit reports. If you ask me what is a secured credit card, I will tell you it was the greatest thing I have found to raise my credit scores after having had some problems that cause me to have less than perfect credit. I will also tell you that I did not realize that these cards would be so useful in making purchases where my debit card or prepaid credit card is not accepted. Yes, I am using a card that is secured by my own money, but I like the fact that I am not going into debt. It is nice to know that if I ever them in a position where I cannot make the payment on that card, all I have to do is closed down and I do not owe them any money. I hope that I am never in financial trouble again, but it is nice to know that this money is essentially money I have in the bank if I ever need it. You will soon forget that it is your money deposited on these cards and if something comes up and you need extra money, you always have that money available. I have personally found that the best offers for these cards are not from your well known banks. Sometimes you will find offers from well-known credit card companies, but I advise you to stay away from big banks as they are not very good at dealing with people with bad credit or no credit. You will find better offers from companies that offer different types of credit cards and companies that specialize in helping people with bad credit or no credit history. |
